Hi everyone. I'm 71 and, after approximately two years of symptoms and two biopsies, I have just been diagnosed with vulval lichen planus. My GP did the first biopsy, which came back as 'chronic inflammation', and I was then told to use the Dermovate when I was itchy! I wasn't very happy with this and asked to see a dermatologist who was brilliant - vulval conditions are her speciality, so I feel very lucky. She called the first biopsy result 'rubbish', ordered another biopsy and this showed lichen planus. So I've got a regime to use the Dermovate over the next three months when I will see her again. I'm also using Dermol to wash with and Hydromol after going to the loo.

Although it's a relief to finally get a diagnosis, I am a little concerned about it spreading to other areas. I don't know how common that is. I'm also concerned about having to use steroid tablets, if the cream doesn't work. Anyway, I'm really pleased to have found this site where I hope to find information and support. Still working my way through all the posts and looking forward to getting to know everybody.

By the way, I put this post on earlier and had a lovely reply from JamesM. However, I then put a 'hello' on the Female Board, thinking it was different board, before I realised that it wasn't! So, I deleted one of the posts and both disappeared, including JamesM's reply! So, apologies, JamesM.

Hi, I have just found this support site and look forwards to learning and sharing with others. I have been suffering for a few months and after going to a private consultant was diagnosed with LP.... since then I have had another specialist confirm the condition. Have it on both hands, lips, and scalp. Using steroid salve once a day plus Diprobase and antihistamine tablets.

Hello and welcome to UKLP.....i think some of us know just how you feel! At a time when I feel pretty rubbish, your post made me laugh!

Hope you find some useful information on managing the condition on here.... and ask away...you might not get an immediate reply, but someone usually replies at some point!

Hi Elizabeth and welcome. I know just how you feel. It took two years of symptoms before I was diagnosed, after requesting to see a dermatologist. At least now I feel it's being taken seriously and I'll be monitored. Following the dermatologist's regime, I've been using Dermovate for nearly three months now and that awful itching has just about gone, although the inflammation is still there. Hope things soon improve for you now that you have been diagnosed. Take care.
